We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to the newest cohorts of students joining the Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Dental Assistant programs at Cestar College!
The recent orientation session, held on September 29th, was a fantastic kickoff. It was filled with energy, purpose, and a shared commitment to compassionate, professional care. We met an inspiring group of future healthcare professionals who are ready to dedicate themselves to supporting individuals, families, and communities across two vital fields.
Highlights from the Orientation Sessions
The orientation is a crucial first step in your educational journey, designed to equip you with the foundational knowledge and confidence needed before you dive into your specialized studies. We had 2 orientation sessions – one for our Dental Assistant students and one for our PSW students
Key moments from the day included:
- Meeting with Mentors: Students were introduced to our experienced faculty and program staff. These instructors bring years of real-world experience—from long-term care and community health to hospital and clinical dental settings—and are here to guide them every step of the way.
- A Tour of the Campus: Both cohorts received a sneak peek of their practical training environment.
- PSW students toured the Skills Lab, where they will practice safe patient transfers, infection control, and assistance with daily living activities.
- Dental Assistant students toured the state-of-the-art dental labs and clinical spaces to prepare for hands-on skills like taking X-rays and mastering chairside assisting.
- Pathway to Placement: Students in both programs reviewed vital clinical and practicum placement components. These segments provide the students with a clear idea of the skills required to be successful in demanding settings like long-term care facilities, retirement homes, community agencies, and fast-paced dental practices.
- Student Support Services: Resources such as tutoring, academic advising, and career services were highlighted to ensure that every student feels fully supported throughout their journey – from their first day to their graduation and beyond.
Choosing a Career of Impact
By choosing Cestar College for your healthcare training, you are stepping into a rewarding and in-demand career. Whether you become a PSW or a Dental Assistant, you will be an essential, trusted link in the healthcare system.
The Power of the PSW
Choosing to become a Personal Support Worker means stepping into one of the most vital careers in healthcare. PSWs are the heart of the care system, offering not only physical assistance but also vital emotional support and companionship. As a graduate, you will be prepared to:
- Make a Direct Impact: Improve the daily quality of life and maintain the dignity of clients who are elderly, ill, or living with disabilities.
- Provide Patient-Focused Care: Deliver care that respects the autonomy, choices, and cultural needs of each client.
Why Dental Assisting is Essential
Choosing a career as a Dental Assistant is choosing a path that offers direct patient interaction and strong professional stability. Dental Assistants are the backbone of any dental practice. As a graduate, you will be prepared to:
- Be a Vital Team Member: Work collaboratively with dentists and hygienists as a multi-skilled, professional member of a healthcare team.
- Boost Patient Confidence: Make a direct, positive impact on patient health and confidence through excellent chairside assistance and care.
